  • Uglich HPP

One of the oldest power plants in Russia Uglich HPP was put into operation in 1940. During the World War II, it played a major part in providing Moscow with electricity, being its main energy source. Currently its capacity is 120 MW
  • Construction of the century

The blocking of the Volga River and construction was mostly carried out by the GULAG prisoners, sentenced to three or more years. Despite this, the building of Uglich HPP went down into the history books as the most large-scale project of the 20th century. All projects and engineering decisions were unique for that time
  • Monument of Architecture

Uglich HPP is recognized as an object of cultural heritage and for over 80 years stands out as the biggest and most wonderful attraction on the Volga River. The facades of the building are decorated in Stalinist Empire style and the hall is adorned with a fresco painted by soviet art school graduates
  • Transport artery

Before the HPP you could wade through the Volga River in Uglich region. Most of the time its depth was about 2 meters, so ships used it only 80 days a year. Now it is almost 4 meters what is enough for year-round navigation
  • The collection of memories

In Uglich HPP we have a museum like no other in the world. In 2011, it received the Senkevich Tourist Award as “The Best Regional Museum”. In its truly interactive center where you will find no “Don’t touch” signs About a tour
